11/16/2023 0 Comments Shining force 3 first blaccksmith![]() ![]() I'm playing it right now and it is really great, too long to explain but I'm really enjoying scenario 3. One of the things that this scenario does well though is that it sets you right up to play the third (and best) scenario where the story actually progresses and resolves with Julian and the Bulzome sect. Taken together the three scenarios give over 100 hours of gameplay! I don't know about howlongtobeat, because this game, considering the grinding towards the end to level up for the final battle took me 48 hours to beat! 6 more than the first one! I'm surprised I persevered. From what I remember it is more difficult than the first scenario, although the gameplay itself is relatively simple. Then again it's kind of good that this game forces you to think and strategize at key points every now and then. I only just managed to beat this part due to some careful strategy. Then your unlocked characters have to make it back to a table to pick up their weapons so they can do battle. One part of the game in Chapter 5 most of your team get locked up in a jail, you must get the key and unlock every one of them as you take turns moving and having to fight hordes of enemies. There are 6 acts in the game but by the fourth act, the game started to seem to be very grindy, and much of the 4th chapter, the 5th chapter and the 6th chapter could've been cut. I feel like a lot of the political turmoil, and families being thrown around in war as you talk to the NPCs gives this one some realism. They made this game more mature with more adult content since they thought that fans of Shining Force and Shining Force II would be grown up by the time they play this game. I really find it amazing that they were able to put this trilogy out and that it came out as well. Although the plot is fairly complex, and does have some anime style tropes, there is something about it that makes it more serious than a lot of other SRPGs.Īccording to the development team they had very little financial backing from Sega to create this game, but it was a labour of love. It traces over the events of the first game, but shows a lot of political intrigue, and backstabbing. The main problem in this game is that it is the second in the trilogy, and feels like the long grindy middle. The graphical, and design improvements are significant from the first game. Each town seems more unique, and there are some really creative designs like the village up in the trees. There are some notable improvements to this scenario, namely the battle animations, as well as town designs. The gameplay is the same as before, although there are new gimmicks for the battles. ![]() The plot line is very complex, it is similar to that of the first game except you get to see the events from the perspective of Medion of the empire, and follow him on his adventure. Much of what I want to say about this game can be found on the review I did of scenario 1 here. ![]() Scenarios 2 and 3 were never released in the West due to a lack of financial backing from Sega and being released near the end of the Saturn lifespan, but excellent fan translations now exist! That is what I played here. I didn't realize how to import data from the first game to this one on the emulator though. This is a strategy RPG trilogy for the Sega Saturn, and I played it via emulator like the first scenario. I'm too busy and tired to write a full formal review but here are some key points. Ok, here is my mini-review, or just some thoughts on Shining Force III: Scenario 2 that I completed recently.
